Just Ask Phil

The last few days have been pretty bad for me.  Well, the last year and half really.  I got a job awhile back working for an online college.  I wasn’t very happy with the job, but it was a job and I liked my coworkers.  On Friday towards the end of the day, I was walked into the director’s office.  I knew the days the coming.  Of the fifteen people I started with about four months ago, I as among the last five.  It all happened rather quickly and painlessly.  I think my manger looked more in pain than anyone.  I walked out proudly, and didn’t look back.

The weekend was no big deal, but Monday was tough on me.  I felt really alone.  When I got home on Monday night, I decided to spend sometime watching South Park.  Over the last several months I hadn’t watched much TV or even videos on the Internet for that matter either.

I found myself at South Park’s website.  I watched the episode the ring, about the Jonas Brothers and Disney.  I laughed my ass off and it changed my mood for the better.

I got word earlier that a school in New Zealand has banned children and parents from bringing birthday cake to school.  Part of it is due to the large number of children born in September and October.  Some cases, there are four cakes a week.  That sounds pretty cool to me.  I like cake, I’m slightly overweight and have little self control when it comes to cake.

A few years ago, when I went back to college to finish my degree, my journalism professor, who used to be a local TV news reporter, made the comment that meteorologists were really good at finding cake.  They just knew it was there; no one had to seek them out.

I do have a theory.  Just like magicians have many tricks to create an illusion.  I wouldn’t be surprised if these meteorologist spent many moments glancing out the window, seeing people carrying cake into the building!
