New Zealand school bans birthday cake

April 4th, 2008

I got word earlier that a school in New Zealand has banned children and parents from bringing birthday cake to school.  Part of it is due to the large number of children born in September and October.  Some cases, there are four cakes a week.  That sounds pretty cool to me.  I like cake, I’m slightly overweight and have little self control when it comes to cake.

A few years ago, when I went back to college to finish my degree, my journalism professor, who used to be a local TV news reporter, made the comment that meteorologists were really good at finding cake.  They just knew it was there; no one had to seek them out.

I do have a theory.  Just like magicians have many tricks to create an illusion.  I wouldn’t be surprised if these meteorologist spent many moments glancing out the window, seeing people carrying cake into the building!

Have you been Rick Rolled?

April 4th, 2008

This is kind of a new development for me.  I was in a chatroom recently, when a number of people were talking about getting rickrolled, or rickrolling other people.  I had never heard of it before.  In case you haven’t either, it a new Internet phenomenon where people send links of videos to people in emails, chatrooms, ims or even Youtube listings.  The links are stated to be of something, but when the recipient gets the video, its of a Rick Astley video.

I’ve actually always liked Rick Astley’s music, so I don’t mind being Rick Rolled.
